Tea production has continued to grow steadily in 2023, reaching 6.604 million metric tons, a 2 percent increase from 2022 and a 26 percent rise over the past decade. The leading tea-producing countries—China, India, Kenya, and Sri Lanka—account for over 75% of global production. Up until the late 18th century, tea cultivation was predominantly in Asia, but rising demand has led to its global spread.

Today, more than 40 countries produce tea, including Turkey, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Korea, Malawi, South Africa, Mozambique, Brazil, and Argentina. Each of these countries has distinct production regions, each with its unique terroir, imparting different characters, aromas, and flavors to their teas.

La Via del Te produces Italian tea in Premosello on Lake Maggiore where the second largest plantation in Europe and the first one in Italy is set.
